Michelle's Camp Blog
August 18, 2009
So, camp is over and summer is nearly finished and I've just recently been able to take a break long enough to
suck in a big breath of air!!!  Ok, maybe it's not quite as bad as all that, but I will be glad when school starts and
we get back on a regular schedule.

Making the camp DVDs has turned out to be an issue with my computer.  It just doesn't like making that many
DVDs and in fact, spit the entire DVD drive out at me the other day.  I'm going to try to upload those videos to the
website or if nothing else, then maybe I can upload them to YouTube and you'll be able to download them from
there.  I'm still working on this situation, don't give up on me yet!!

I've updated the website with the new camp dates for 2010 and the deadline to register.  The cost isn't going to
change.  I hope you'll be able to be there with us again in 20 10 and I hope to be able to update this site more
often as the months go by.  When I received the camp module from the state WMU, I'll post the new theme on
here for you to see.  Until then, thanks for everything!

See you at camp,
Michelle

Wow!  I sure haven't updated this in a while.  I guess I was spending more time writing my English papers than
keeping up with this blog.  But the semester is over now so I can concentrate on better things.  Like camp!!

We finally selected a theme song and have a t-shirt design ready at the printer.  He just waiting on a final count
and sizes and he'll be ready to go.  We've settled (for the most part) on craft ideas, etc., and we're just waiting to
figure out how much of everything to order.  Things are coming together and we're getting very excited now!

Someone stopped me at church on Sunday to ask me if I was on some kind of medication.  I was a little taken
aback by that, but then she explained that I was so peppy and full of energy that she assumed I must be
medicated.  I laughed and told her that I was just excited about things that were happening - camp is among that
list.

I got a phone call this weekend from a church wanting to come to camp.  I looked them up on the internet
because the church sounded familiar and I discovered that the pastor of this church is the same pastor that
baptized me back when I was 10!!  How cool is that!!  So I'm really looking forward to meeting the people from
this church when they get to camp.

More news for those of you who've been to camp before.  Many of you might remember Bobby Fuller from Texas
Port Ministry.  He came as a missionary last summer and we collected our mission offering and toothpaste for
him.  Bobby was recently appointed as a NAMB missionary and just discovered that he'll be one of the
Christmas in August missionaries for WMU next year!  Check out his ministry and find out how you can be
involved at
www.texasportministry.org.  (Disclaimer:  I've recently been hired there as the ministry assistant so I'm
a little biased about this ministry!)  :)

Our staffers are getting pumped up about camp.  I can't walk by one of them without them asking me something
about it.  My youngest daughter has also been working out the camp sleeping arrangements for her and her
friends......I'm sure her counselor will LOVE that!  Camp will be here soon so get ready.  The registration deadline
is May 15 but if you need more time, just let me know.  (Trust me on this, my church is usually the last to register
regardless of how often I remind them!)  :)

See you at camp,
Michelle

Spring Break starts soon and boy, am I ready!!  Things are getting exciting regarding camp, too!  I wanted to let
you know a little bit about our camp missionary for this year, Cristen Nelson.  Cristen is taking a semester off
from college to be a missionary in Peru.  She's there right now!  She left in January and she'll be back in the
states early in June.  Please keep her and her team in your prayers over the coming months.

The interesting thing about this coming camp is that God is busy working out this theme in my life.  Our theme
"Finding My Place" is something I think everyone can relate to, not just our girls.  I go through days when I wonder
what in the world I'm doing and then I go through days where it feels like my life is right where it should be.  Right
now I'm in a time where things are possibly changing for me and my family.  I don't want to get into details yet, but
I'll let you know about it when things settle down a bit.  It's just great to know that I have a God who cares about
the details and will work all things out for the good.  And I'm excited to know that I can still relate to something
we've designed for younger girls - maybe I'm not so old after all!!!

As always, if you have any questions regarding camp details, give me a call or email me.  I'd love to talk with you
about it.  Spend some time in Bible study and prayer preparing yourself for the time you'll have at camp and find
your place in God's plan.  It'll make camp a better experience for you and for your girls.
See you at camp,
Michelle

Happy New Year!  Are you excited about the possibilities that lay before you in this new year?  I hope you are!
We serve a big God who is capable of big things.  We just have to be willing, obedient, and available to Him!
Okay, enough exclamation points.  The kids are back in school and I've been busy working on camp things from
in front of my computer.  I want to get a few things done before life gets crazy.  It has a tendency to do that around
here you know!

My church will be having an Experiencing God weekend next weekend so I'm hoping to get renewed and
re-energized for a new year.  I hope that you'll take time somewhere and somehow to spend time with God to
recharge your batteries and get things prepared for your new year of ministry.  We all need a re-charging from
time to time!

I'll be printing and mailing the camp promotion brochure tomorrow.  I'm very excited about camp.  If you haven't
started yet, please begin praying for the girls, sponsors and leaders that will be at camp this summer.  Six
months isn't that long in the grand scheme of things.  I actually think I have a good handle on craft ideas, t-shirt
designs, etc.  We're still working on some details like the theme song, etc.  If you have a teenager who would be
interested in
applying for staffer, please let me know.  We'll be sending applications out soon.
See you at camp,
Michelle

I've spent the day working on a camp brochure to be mailed out at the beginning of next week.  A little later than I
had hoped to have it out, but things don't always work out according to our plans.  Hopefully you'll be getting it
soon and can get things in motion to have your group at camp.  I'm so excited about the things we have planned
for you this year.  I hope you'll like them.  We have a camp pastor coming, and I'm working on getting a
missionary.  I'll post that info soon.  Hope everyone had a Merry Christmas and hope you'll have a safe and
happy 2009!
See you at camp,
Michelle

I just thought I'd write a little bit to keep a chronicle of my camp thoughts.  I seldom get a chance to talk to most of
you while at camp so this way, if you're bored enough to read this stuff, at least you'll know a little bit about me
and what happens between camps.

Right now I'm waiting on the edge of my seat for the camp module.  The Texas WMU puts this out every year, but
I can't ever seem to get a hold of the right person there.  So, I get my wonderful friend Tina Robinson from the
Gulf Coast Baptist Associational office to give them a call.  She's a miracle worker!!  They're supposed to be
mailing the module out, and I'm trying to wait patiently for it.  The camp module has the theme and clip art along
with the mission study material, the Bible study material, the Quiet Time books, and a few other things.
Sometimes I go through and modify activities or other things to make them better fit our camp set-up.  Once we
even completely changed the theme, but I'm not usually creative enough to do that very often!

Lori, our staffer director, and I have been running ideas back and forth past each other for a few weeks now.  I'm
required to give her some time off between camps, so I try not to start bugging her with my ideas until October or
November!!  I've also gone back to school this semester so that's taking up more of my time than I'm used to.  I'm
a member of the TBE Board of Directors and we have a meeting tomorrow night.  Going to the encampment
always gets me thinking about camp.  I love to hear the sounds of the girls' giggling and yelling.  The
encampment in the middle of November is nothing like it is during Girls Mission Camp, but it's a good reminder
of why I do what I do.  Girls' voices and camp go hand in hand in my opinion and the encampment seems very
quiet without those voices.

I'm really looking forward to seeing you all at camp soon!  I hope that you'll be there with a big smile on your face
and an expectation for what God has planned for all of us!
See you at camp,
Michelle
